What a Raya week... I hope everyone enjoyed your Aidilfitri break. I'm pretty sure there were dramas when all the siblings congregate and met each other in both fashionable and unfashionable manner. Either way, good, bad, regretful or memorable moments happening around us are just part and parcel of life. Lets forgive, forget and move on. Yeap move on...
After a week long marathon of stuffing the ketupat, lemang, rendang, sate, kuah kacang, laksa, mee kari and the list goes on and on, its time to burn the calories stocks and reduce the spare tire.
The post raya weekends are the most challenging period if you're planning to engage into a diet regime. Over the years I see people innovating the open house concept. Now we have breakfast open house apart from the normal 12pm and until late in the evening. I guess it's a matter of time before someone invented "Supper Open House". It's a month long marathon of eating and feasting. Self control is crucial during this time of the year.
Note on Safety
Just a reminder to CA's and all cyclist in general, practice safety first and if possible do not ride alone and do not leave the last man/rider to cycle alone.
This came from two separate events happening recently to Bob's Clan who was mugged while riding solo and fainted and fell of his bike while riding.
Recently one of the rider from Bob's Clan was hacked from behind with parang and robbed by a motorist while riding alone and the other one was Mr Lok who had a broken collar bone after he fell off his bike. He was believed to have fainted while riding and fell during the night ride on one of the last week of Ramadhan. His fellow riders found him unconscious when they backtracked to check on him after realizing that he was lagging behind for sometime. Bob, if you're reading this, please shed some light on these incidents for details.
Having said the above, I think its best to share emergency numbers and health conditions with your cycling buddies just in case. Lets all hope and pray for Mr. Lok to make a speedy recovery.
Back to Weekend Cycling
Ok.. back to the good old weekend cycling.
Last Sunday, September 19th was my 1st post Raya cycling after a couple of night ride during the Ramadhan. This time around we had a new friend, Dr. Azlan from Taman Sutera joining us in the Sungai Long's ride.
Its good to be back cycling with friends after a long holiday break. My fitness is way off. The HRM double beeps every time we ran into elevated routes. I'd have to remind me not to over exert my self and only speed up pace one step at a time. I reckoned it'll take a while to recover and its back to building cadence before speed and finally climbing.
As usual the RV was Simpang Balak SILK Toll Plaza. Dr. Azlan, Saipol and I were a bit late when we arrived there. Both Zams were already waiting for us but there was no sign of MieTador who was rumored to have been appointed (unofficial news brought by little birds) as personal trainer to a lady rider... ahemmm... Lets hope this is not the beginning of another "Farah" saga.
We cycled steadily at around 27-30 Km/H and made a quick bio-break at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza before heading out to the 2nd RV near the Kajang Perdana clover leaf. From there we rendezvous with Zaha and Farizal before finishing the course. We made another brief stop at the last hill after Sg. Long Toll just to make sure everybody arrived before we headed out the the Roti Canai joint!
I had a good ride and sore thighs.
The Week Ahead
The were suggestions to do a ride to Setul next week via Lokeh (LEKAS pronounced in native Nogori). Its a bit sudden but Farizal assured us that it should be okay if we can keep the speed to a minimum 25 KM/H and cap it at max 30 KM/H (highly doubtful if it came from Farizal, especially during climbs).
Cast your vote people! This ain't no monkey business because the route might take us as far as Bukit Putus!
Yatta!
