Sunday 28th March 2010: Blistering Hot Sunny Morning Ride

@Sungai Long's hill

It was a beautiful Sunday morning. The sky was blue and it was not as windy as Saturday where at some point the gushing winds blew like the speed of 60-70km/h (just my gut feel).

To be honest, I'm not really a fan of afternoon rides for a few reasons. One, the traffic is busier. Two, it definitely is hotter hence I usually get dehydrated faster and  three, the air is less fresh in the afternoon. But given the challenges of both domestic and work related commitments, afternoon ride does look as a better option compared to not riding at all,  provided that it doesn't rain.

Started the Sunday ride a bit late at around 7.50am. Saipol was not contactable the whole morning. I rang Zaha to check if he's riding. Apparently he just came back from his usual Sunday chores so we decided to ride on Sungai Long route.

I rode solo at 28-30Km/h from the Sungai Balak toll plaza en route to our usual Kajang Perdana clover leaf. While at the Bukit Kajang toll plaza, my phone rang and it was Zam, asking me if I'm cycling. The voice quality wasn't that good and It's kind of hard to catch the conversation details. I told him I was at Bukit Kajang toll and I'd wait for him there as I thought I heard him saying that he just reached Sungai Ramal toll plaza.

While waiting for Zam, I took some pictures just to kill some time. After about 10 minutes, I saw a cyclist  approaching the Bukit Kajang toll rest area.  It was not Zam from Sungai Balak but another Zam, Zamri from Balakong on his vintage bike. It was a nice surprise but where the heck is the 'big' Zam. So I called Zam to check if he ran into problems and to my surprise he was way ahead and waiting for me at the Pit Stop area after the Sungai Long's toll plaza. Crap... that was nice, but at least i had Zamri's company.

Zam and I continued riding through the Big Mac and decided to climb through and had our pit stop at the peak rather than the clover leaf as the scorching sun was in its "full blossom" and there was no shaded area near by.  There were a couple of MTBs and a roadie cycled passed through as we were waiting for Zaha.

Shortly after Zaha arrived we cycled our way through the rest of the hills up until the last hill after Sg. Long's Toll Plaza where 'Big' Zam and Farizal waited for us.

After a quick break we headed to Cheras Perdana via SILK highway all the way to the Roti Canai joint. Again, they ran out of Roti Canai so we had to settle for Bihun Soto instead. Right before we called it a day, Bro Suhaimi managed to join us for a cup of tea.

It has been a while since we had a grand ride anywhere. There have been pockets of us riding through different routes over the weekend. Let's do a big one to Mantin next Saturday!
